Biography

Mastyka was formed in the end of 2004 after a jam night in dimly-lit quarters. Much we think like the old traditional music was played in winter months of yesteryear. Good friends from the bands Hazerfan, Mothman and Gypsy Kings all got together for a little holiday cheer, some good wine, fine dancing and cutting-loose fun. With a passion for middle-eastern rhythms and scales, spanish guitar, indian and celtic violin, a variety of languages and vocal styles and a love of dance, somehow they all discovered a road for unique influences to intersect.

This groups roots are steeped in traditional music, yet aren't quite so old hat - there are new sounds, textures, movements, arrangements, dynamics and earthly, yet otherworldly sounds coming from within. One is likely to find something familiar to their ears while experiencing something they have never quite heard before. Mastyka loves to play from the heart, and each member reveals something truly personal and unique in themselves while twirling like spokes on the same wheel. This occasionally causes impromptu jam sessions, loud and uproarius cheering and bellydance riots.
